Chris Barnes completed a free fall that saw his chip stack lowered to $21,500 when his opponent made threes full of sevens. His opponent doubled on the hand and Barnes was now below the average. While he's plenty of live experience, the tournament marked his first time ever playing online poker. He navigated a field of young, online crushers to show that even a live player can succeed online. CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE COVERAGE. Professional poker player Chris Konvalinka, 21, is eager for live poker games to return to Las Vegas casinos. (Jim Barnes/Las Vegas Review-Journal). Christopher Barnes poker results, stats, photos, videos, news, magazine columns, blogs, Twitter, and more. And Chris Barnes missed it. When his ball slid into the gutter without brushing the 10-pin, Haugen pounced like a hungry panther. “When he missed the 10-pin I said, ‘You can’t give me that.

Brighton based Chris Cousins has become the latest Grosvenor Casinos’ GUKPT main event champion. Chris bested a field of 180 players in his hometown to secure his best ever poker payday of £20,300, the main event trophy and the bragging rights of the town.

A true poker enthusiast, Chris has a host of poker results from in and around Brighton but this great achievement now sits atop his resume as proudly as the trophy does on top of his mantelpiece. After 3 days of fierce competition many people would look forward to a break away from the tables to enjoy the success but not Chris “I’ve already registered for the next side event ” he said after being presented with his trophy “I’d better go see if I’ve got any chips left!”

The generous £100,000 guarantee saw £10,000 added to the prizepool by Grosevenor Casinos, meaning great value for the 180 main event players. The final day’s play was quick paced and lasted only 8 hours, in stark contrast to the marathon finish at the preceding leg in Edinburgh. 14 players started the day with 1 previous winner amongst them in the shape of 2013 Vic champion Martin Bader. The final table was formed fairly quickly but not before a key hand played out when the pocket kings of overnight cheap leader Fraser Bellamy ran into Chris Cousins’ flopped straight. A pot that would set the tone of the day for our eventual champion.

The last remaining lady of the tournament was the first casualty of the final table as a short stacked Ellie Biessek found AK but couldn’t hold against the T9 of Chris Barnes that made a straight. Ellie’s good friend Lee Taylor had also made the final table, but his two pair would lose out to the nut flush draw of Chris Cousins who would send Lee home in 8th place

It was an action packed final table with the exits coming think and fast. By 6pm on this final day there was quite a queue forming at the cash desk with Francois Goulet (7th) and Joe Greenfield (6th) collecting their winnings after unsuccessful all in confrontations. In Edinburgh last month we saw a new two time champion crowned. History would not repeat itself here as Martin Bader made his exit in 5thplace, all in with AK he was called by the nut flush draw which wasted no time in sealing Martin’s fate

Ben Winsor was many people’s tip for success before play began on the final day. All was going well for the young player until his 74 connected well with the A74 all heart flop. Unfortunately for Ben it wasn’t quite as good as the flopped nut flush for Chris Barnes, whose hand held to take us down to 3.

All three of the remaining finalists were local players. It would be Chris Barneswho would end up taking 3rd place, leaving Chris Cousins and Hui Jin headsup. It took 20 minutes before our champion was crowned when both players flopped a flush but it was the nuts for Chris that provided a suitable end to the day

Hui Jin, who has only be playing Poker since November, says he is “still learning everytime I play”. If this result is a sign of things to come another bright poker star may have been born.

The Steep Price of Poker

At the start of the heads-up match it cost $3,000 to ante up and $3,000 for the low card bet. The limits were $10,000-$20,000.

Snowball Effect

Stud is a game where if you’re not careful, it can already be too late to pull yourself out of troubled waters. A half hour into the heads-up match between Michael Keiner and Nesbitt Coburn it may have already been to late for Coburn, or too early considering it was 6:15 a.m. Keiner now held $840,000 to Coburn’s $330,000, and things were about to get worse.

Queens Up

With almost $200,000 in the pot, Coburn bet $20,000 on seventh street with 3899 exposed. Keiner raised to $40,000 with QK510 exposed and Coburn called. Keiner flipped over QJ5 for queens up and delivered another uppercut blow to Coubrun's chip stack, he was now down to $220,000.

The Final Countdown

Keiner continued to lean on Coburn, and he was between a rock and a hard place with only $80,000. With 6AJQ exposed, Coburn mucked his hand after committing $60,000 of that last $80,000. Keiner had made a raise on seventh street with 996A exposed. The writing was on the wall at this point, Coburn had $18,000 left.

Coburn was all in on third street and Keiner quickly made the call. He then turned over pocket kings as his hole cards. Coburn just laughed as he was dealt 104(39JA)4. Keiner drove in the final dagger with KK(2432)Q. “YESSSS!!!!” cried out Keiner triumphantly when the win was official. He then asked the dealer to pinch him and said, “I’m not dreaming.” Coburn was eliminated in second place, and took home $80,876 in prize money. Keiner won the $1,500 seven card stud event, the gold bracelet, and $146,987.
